The rally range grows with Twingo Renault Sport R2
Already home to Clio Renault Sport R3 Access and Maxi, the rally range developed by Renault Sport Technologies will soon play host to Twingo R2. Based on Twingo Renault Sport and aimed at amateur drivers, this new product will be available for spring 2010.
With its racy looks, high-revving engine and exciting handling, Twingo Renault Sport will give ever greater numbers of customers access to Renault’s range of sports models.At the same time, the ‘rally’ version of Twingo Renault Sport will provide amateur drivers with a sportscar which is modern, reliable, safe and economical in one.
Based on the FIA’s R2 regulations, this new product benefits from a development of the 1.6L 16V engine, a sequential gearbox and uprated suspension and brakes.It will be marketed by Renault Sport Technologies as a kit of special parts and a new Twingo Renault Sport at a preferential price.
“Twingo Renault Sport R2 will be the entry model in the ‘rallye’ range which already features Clio Renault Sport R3 Access and Maxi.” explains Frédéric Bertrand, Racing Marketing Manager.“This product is aimed at amateur drivers who want a modern product in the spirit of the group N Clio Renault Sport ‘Ragnotti’. However, much more than pure performance, we are offering a no-nonsense product with low running costs which is particularly reliable and safe.”
Unveiled in October, Twingo Renault Sport R2 will be let loose on the tarmac before the end of the year.The kits will be available in spring 2010. Taking their inspiration from the Clio R3 Trophies which already exist in various countries around Europe, Renault Sport’s partners will be organizing a similar programme of events from the start of next season.
Renault Sport Technologies will also offer a Twingo Renault Sport R1 kit.Very simple, as the powertrain and suspension are production parts, this product can be used for the racetrack and rally stages alike.
